Russell Brand told police he never had non-consensual sex

Russell Brand, 51, is currently on trial at Southwark Crown Court in London facing three counts of rape and other sexual offence charges, all of which he denies. During police interviews conducted between 2023 and 2025, Brand stated that although he had been "very promiscuous," he had never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity. He described the allegations as stemming from a "defamatory and fictitious documentary" and claimed that media and police encouragement led to further allegations being fabricated or reimagined.

On 27 October 2026, the court heard that a charge of indecent assault related to an incident in 2001 was dropped due to insufficient evidence, with the jury instead considering an amended charge of attempted indecent assault, to which Brand also pleads not guilty. The prosecution is expected to conclude its case shortly before the defence begins. The trial is being closely followed through BBC coverage.
