Knighting Sinfield ‘easiest decision anyone’s had to make,’ says Prince William

The Prince of Wales, Prince William, described knighting rugby league star Sir Kevin Sinfield as "probably the easiest decision anyone's ever had to make" during a BBC Breakfast interview. Sir Kevin was honoured for his leadership and community work, particularly his fundraising efforts for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities following the death of his friend and former team-mate Rob Burrow from the condition in 2024. Prince William praised Sinfield's humility and dedication, highlighting his recent completion of seven ultra marathons in seven days to raise money for MND.

Prince William and the Princess of Wales witnessed part of Sinfield's endurance challenge in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and the prince also spoke about his personal connection to the MND community. He reflected on writing to Burrow's family after his death and emphasised the importance of acknowledging grief. The prince further acknowledged the contributions of other MND advocates, including the late Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir and his aunt, the Princess Royal Anne.
