The UK government has announced it will deploy RAF Typhoon jets to Saudi Arabia to defend against escalating missile and drone attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi group. Authorised by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, the jets will operate in a defensive capacity to protect Saudi cities and infrastructure, following recent deadly strikes including a missile attack on Riyadh's international airport that killed 13 people and injured over 300.

In addition to the jets, the UK will send military advisers and an RAF A400M transport aircraft to assist with the movement of defence equipment within Saudi Arabia. The UK is also extending its air-to-air refuelling support for Saudi defensive operations by 90 days. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting highlighted the regional escalation and its impact on energy supplies and costs, emphasising the UK's responsibility to support allies and protect civilians amid ongoing conflict in Yemen.
