A 36-year-old British woman from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, has died in the Bahamas after attempting to rescue her two sons who were swept away by a strong current while snorkelling near the southern point of Bimini island. The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that the woman was snorkelling with her husband and children when the incident occurred. Both children were rescued from the water, but the woman was also swept away and later found unresponsive at the North Bimini Ferry Dock.
She was transported to a local clinic where she was pronounced dead despite medical efforts. An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death. The Foreign Office expressed condolences and confirmed it is supporting the family and liaising with local authorities. The incident highlights the dangers of strong currents in the area and the risks involved in water rescues.
